Seeking new SES recruits

Growing support: Mortlake State Emergency Service unit members are welcoming people interested in becoming new recruits to learn about the requirements at an information night next week.

MORTLAKE State Emergency Service (SES) unit members are calling for people interested in becoming new recruits to come along to an information night.

The information night will be held on Monday, September 30 at the Mortlake SES unit headquarters on the corner of Stewart Street and Shaw Street from 7pm until 8.30pm.

VICSES community resilience co-ordinator Bess Krause said joining the SES is an “invaluable” way to support the region in times of disaster and hardship.

“This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and give back to your community,” she said.

“We’re recruiting for a range of roles, including operational activities, such as land search, flood and storm response and road crash rescue, as well as for administrative and community engagement.”

All VICSES volunteers receive accredited training as part of their role, including in first aid, general rescue, chainsaw operations, community education and media training.
