Strong start for Demons

LISMORE Derrinallum’s 2024 Mininera League campaign got off to a flying start last weekend, with a 104-point win.

In front of a home crowd at Derrinallum, the Demons showed great form, dominating all over the ground to defeat the Pumas 18.20.128 to 3.6.24.

Having finished last season in ninth position with four wins on the board, the Demons will be keen to rack up some early round wins and consolidate as the season progresses.

Last Saturday’s opening term saw the home side kick 6.3 to 2.1 before breaking away to a 36-point lead by the main break.

The third term proved the winning one for the Demons, piling on eight goals to the Pumas’ three points and heading into the final quarter with an 87-point buffer.

A low-scoring final term saw the Demons kick just seven behinds while Moyston Willaura added two.

Best for the Demons were Bradley Ward, Blake Scott, Steven Ryan, Jack McCallum, Harry Bufton and Charlie Brett.

Blake Scott had a great day out, kicking five goals for the Demons, and was well supported on the board by Bradley Ward with four.

Other goal scorers were Lachie Constable (2), Charlie Brett, James Halloran, Will Langley, Wil McCallum and Nicholas Schiemer.

The Demons’ reserves also celebrated a strong first round win, defeating the Pumas 17.13.115 to 5.6.36.

Best for the home side were Bradley Schiltz, Mitchell Dellar, Riley Browne, Steven Fisher, Todd Lamont and Beau Ketchen.

Goals went to Browne (6), Schiltz (4), Ryan Jeffrey (3), James Boag, Jalen Cartledge, Steven Fisher and Ketchen.

Lismore Derrinallum had a great day on the netball courts, winning all but the 15 and under match.

A grade: Lismore Derrinallum defeated Moyston Willaura 33-29.

B grade: Lismore Derrinallum defeated Moyston Willaura 41-23.

C grade: Lismore Derrinallum defeated Moyston Willaura 35-12.

18 and under: Lismore Derrinallum defeated Moyston Willaura 42-14.

15 and under: Moyston Willaura defeated Lismore Derrinallum 36-2.

13 and under – Lismore Derrinallum defeated Moyston Willaura 34-0.

Round two this weekend will see Lismore Derrinallum travel to Dunkeld to take on the Rams.
