Table tennis season underway
THE 2024 Terang table tennis season has begun, with five teams contesting this year’s pennant.
While the competition is now underway, anyone still wishing to participate or fill-in is most welcome to join.
An extra table is set up each week for the bye team on Wednesday nights from 7.30pm at the Terang stadium.
The first major upset of the season occurred in the Ghanda versus Rhino’s match, with Vesha Chapagai defeating the number one player of the competition Callum McSween for the first time.
Vesha achieved this victory in straight games 14-12, 11-9, 11-9.
This victory helped propel Rhino’s to a big win, 9-2.
Vesha’s team-mates Tony Young and John Rantall both won two singles and the team won both doubles, while McSween won his two other singles matches.
The closer match of the night was between I Don’t Care and TIC, with I Don’t Care winning 6-5 in a contest that had five matches decided in the fifth game.
For the winning side, they won both doubles which enabled them to get across the line.
Both Pat Nicholson and Michael Pearson won two of their three singles.
For TIC, Colin Venn had to work very hard for his three singles wins, with Tyler Smith and Ian Rochfort winning a single each.
Ladder - Rhino’s 4, I Don’t Care 4, Battlers 4, TIC 0, Ghanda 0.
