2024 sees low rainfall, dry winter

THE northern towns of the Corangamite Shire experienced low rainfall for 2024, with Camperdown, Derrinallum and Lismore impacted by a dry winter.

Camperdown saw 554.9mm of rainfall hit the ground over 2024, which is below the yearly average of 803.7mm.

Camperdown experienced the most rainfall in July with 106.9mm recorded, with the next three wettest months being September (78.9mm), October (62mm) and April (56.8mm).

The day of highest daily rainfall for 2024 was June 12, with 19mm recorded in a 24-hour period.

The driest month of the year was February, with only 0.5mm falling for the month.

Meanwhile, Lismore recorded 463.9mm of rainfall in 2024, which is lower than the yearly average of 617.7mm.

The majority of Lismore’s rainfall for 2024 fell in September, with 67.8mm hitting the ground.

The next three wettest months were October (62.8mm), July (57.6mm) and April (52.9mm).

December 3 saw Lismore’s highest daily rainfall for 2024, with 26mm recorded in a single day.

February was Lismore’s driest month, with 0.6mm recorded.

Derrinallum saw a total of 495.6mm of rainfall for 2024, below the annual average of 648.3mm.

October was the wettest month of the year for Derrinallum, with 100.8mm of rainfall recorded over the month.

This was followed by July recording 64.4mm, September recording 63mm and April recording 47.6mm.

The highest daily rainfall for 2024 in Derrinallum was recorded on October 19, where 36.6mm hit the ground.

Derrinallum’s driest month of 2024 was February, where just 1mm of rainfall was recorded.
