Being proactive on women’s health
FEMALE residents across Camperdown, Lismore and Derrinallum had the opportunity to learn more about women’s health and preventative measures at last Friday’s Ladies Night in Lismore.

The Women’s Health Unfiltered: Hormones, Health and Happiness program saw over 95 women attend, with information and laughter dispensed in equal measures.
Photographer and cancer survivor Tracey Kruger, Realign Chiropractic’s Tyna Murray, Dr Kate Stotskaia and Dr Heidi Cutting all shared their experiences with women’s health issues, as well as the importance of residents being proactive with their own health.
Camperdown and Lismore Community Health manager Lauren Patterson said she was pleased to see women coming together to invest in themselves, their health and learn something new while supporting one another.
“Each of the presentations focused on a different aspect of women’s health and a different phase of life for women,” she said.
“It was our hope that we could bust a few myths about women’s health and bring some expertise to subjects that women often talk about amongst their peer groups.
“We also hoped that it would prompt women to take the time and take steps to look after themselves and to take a proactive approach to their health.
“All of the speakers shared great insights, Mrs Kruger’s personal experience with cancer was something that will stick with me and she shared her story with a lot of humour and insight.
“The questions from the audience were also great – they were really personal and detailed, and it was great for us as healthcare professionals to hear what is important to people in the community.”
Mrs Patterson said South West Healthcare was keen on hosting more events in the future following the strong positive response.
“We have been doing a lot of work in the community in both Camperdown and Lismore not only just for women – we host a social support walking group, we hosted some first aid and farm safety information days with Ambulance Victoria earlier in the year, we have a falls prevention session coming up,” she said.
“We have a renewed focus on community outreach and events at Camperdown and Lismore Community Health.
“If there is anything the community would like to see more of, we are happy to take requests on board.”
Mrs Patterson extended her gratitude to everyone who attended, as well as the sponsors who supported the event.
