Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora this morning announced the state government was boosting capacity for Warrnambool line passengers, with six-carriage VLocity trains to run for the first time in the coming months.

V/Line is now in the final stages of planning and commenced testing the six carriage trains last night.

Once testing is complete, the six carriage trains will operate on busy Friday and weekend services later this year.

The introduction of the longer trains follows the recent completion of the Warrnambool stabling facility, which has enabled more trains to be housed in Warrnambool overnight.

To safely operate the longer trains, V/Line conductors and staff will communicate with passengers when the trains approach stations.

Passengers who want to reserve a seat for their journey should continue to book ahead before they travel.

“This improvement is backed by the completion of the Warrnambool line upgrade which improved safety and reliability, delivered additional services and allowed modern V/Locity trains to travel on the line for the first time,” Ms Ermacora said.

“We continue to bring costs down for families, with half price fares for everyone until the end of the year.”

Since the introduction of the regional fare cap, Warrnambool line passengers are saving more than $70 on return trips.

“Whether you’re heading to the city for a medical appointment, sporting event, or to visit family and friends, we’re providing more capacity and making it easier to find a seat on our busiest services with six carriage trains,” Ms Ermacora said.

Minister for Public Transport Vicki Ward said boosting capacity on the Warrnambool line would ensure more people can take advantage of the cheaper fares.

“We’re continuing to invest in south west Victoria with more services, a new stabling yard for trains, and upgraded level crossings,” she said.
