Bowlers slip down the ladder
COBDEN Bowling Club’s division one midweek pennant team has fallen to seventh on the ladder after an all-rinks loss on the weekend.
The team was defeated by the second-placed Camperdown Magpies 54-84.
Sue Couch, Paul Dwyer, David Childs and Brian Howard had a close game losing 21-23 to P. Reilly, B. Atchison, I. Henderson and J. Molan.
Ann Scott, Kath Spokes, Loreign Andrews and Bazil Hammond lost 16-34 to C. Skene, F. Salmon, J. O’Donohue and K. Edwards.
Janelle Rohan, Bert Strampel, Geoff Ovens and Doreen Coverdale also lost to D. Van Someren, L. Searle, M. Brebner and G. Edwards 17-27.
Division three also dropped on the ladder and are now fourth after meeting ladder leaders Winchelsea, who had a convincing win 81-44.
Claire Reynolds, Colin Spokes, Des Couch and Colleen Johnson lost 10-23 to C. Williams, R. Erwin, P. Mawson and B. Jones.
Jill Lynch, Leon Carrigan, David Luker and Ann Coverdale won 26-15 over A. Littler, E. O’Brien, H. Davie and P. Lowrey.
Ken Lynch, Joy Beaton, Evelyn Grayland and Pam Savage lost 8-32 to D. Littler, G. Orchard, M. Drayton and H. Wainwright.
In a close match with inclement weather, Camperdown Magpies 2 defeated Cobden’s weekend pennant division two side by 10 shots, 93-83.
M. Brebner, V. Brebner, J. O’Donohue and D. Wilson won 23-15 over Noah Mungean, Ashley Sinnott, Murray Williamson and Lachie Taylor.
P. Richards, J. Molan, G. Molan and K. Johnston lost to Micheal Hickey, Colin Hammond, Sam Thow and Bazil Hammond 19-28.
P. Reilly, A. Anderson, L. Pearson and G. Teal drew with Nick Kemp, Greg Rooke, Terry Beasley and Tom Robertson.
F. Salmon, D. Coverdale, D. Van Someren and G. Edwards defeated Darren Mulgrew, Brendan Hammond, Peter Richardson and Mitch Reed 28-17.
This puts Cobden in third place, while the Magpies number two side remains on top with no losses this season to date.
Division three played City at Colac and lost 82-70.
J. Mills, C. Adams, H. Bentley and T. Hegedus were dominated by David Staggard, Leon Carrigan, Kevin Rundle and Brian Howard losing 13-27.
D. Biddle, G. Norman, T. Lloyd and N. Whittaker won 22-16 over Trevor Roberts, Janine Hutt, Kath Spokes and Jeff Hester.
J. Neal, B. Woods, L. Bolton and T. Morrissy trailed all day to lose 17-19 to Janelle Rohan, Colin Spokes, Richard McVilly and Bert Strampel.
G. Maloney, J. Anderson, R. Garrick and A. Jackson were too strong for Ken Lynch, Garry Matheson, Jim O’Shea and Don Anderson, 30-8.
Cobden is now at sixth place on the ladder, one game behind third and fourth placed City and Camperdown Magpies respectively.
In division four, Camperdown Magpies scraped home 62-59 over Cobden.
C. Wilson, B. Dickson, P. Scott and X. Crabbe won 23-15 over Joy Beaton, Evelyn Grayland, David Luker and Loreign Andrews.
P. James, G. Mitchell, P. Robertson and C. Strampel were defeated 16-32 by Claire Reynolds, Ken Farquharson, John Raeside and Barry Morgan.
B. Sloetjes, G. Weller, N. Weller and A. Whiteside won 23-12 over Doreen Coverdale, Rex Perkins, Keith Lander and Bill Johnson.
Cobden is in sixth place, one of three teams with two wins, but has the lowest percentage.
