Cats claw Tigers

MORTLAKE registered its third win of the Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association season, defeating Merrivale at Merrivale.

Resuming at 2/44 in pursuit of Merrivale’s 137, Mortlake batted 79.2 overs, eventually all out for 186.

Clinton Baker, who took four wickets in Merrivale’s innings, made it a strong all round game, top scoring with 55 from 142 balls, with three fours and a six.

Will Kain made 38 from 81 balls, with Kalhan Sineth making 33 from 88 balls.

Merrivale was put back in for a second innings and was 2/8 from seven overs when stumps were drawn.

The win puts Mortlake in seventh place, three points shy of fourth placed Port Fairy.

This week Mortlake has a one-day game against Allansford-Panmure at the DC Farran Oval.

In the championship division, Mortlake’s game against Merrivale was completely washed out.

This week the Mortlake championship team host Dennington at Mortlake College.

Mortlake’s division three game against Hawkesdale was also abandoned without a ball bowled.

This week the division three Cats play Russells Creek at the Mack Oval.

On Sunday, Mortlake’s women lost to Wangoom at the DC Farran Oval.

Sent into bat, Mortlake made 5/88 from its 25 overs.

Opener Erin O’Brien top scored with 27 from 68 balls, with Clare Rounds and Wynter Bradbury each making 11.

Wangoom replied with 8/103, passing Mortlake’s score six wickets down.

Amelia Horan was the best of the Mortlake bowlers with 2/10 from four overs.

Mortlake’s women have the bye this week and don’t play their next game until January 25.

On Sunday, the Mortlake/Cobden under 17s had a 48 run win over Noorat Terang.

Arlo Herry with 62 and Paddy Hassett with 45 led the way for Mortlake Cobden who made 141 batting first.

In reply, Noorat Terang were bowled out for 93.

On Tuesday night, Mortlake/Cobden completed a win on day two of their match against Dennington.

Chasing 6/85, Mortlake/Cobden made 170, with Max Slater making 52 and Elijah Bradbury 28.

This Sunday Mortlake/Cobden play Twenty20 matches against North Warrnambool and Allansford-Panmure.

In the under 15s, Mortlake/Cobden completed a strong win over Raiders/Nirranda.

Chasing the Raiders score of 4/112, Mortlake/Cobden amassed 2/203.

Michael Benallack led the scoring with 64 from 77 balls, with Alby Jones making 38.

This Friday the under 15s start a two-day game against Allansford-Panmure at Allansford.
