Cobden CFA to host fire safety day

COBDEN Country Fire Authority (CFA) fire brigade has invited the community to talk about home fire safety and help answer questions about how to protect households.

The event will be held at the Cobden fire station on McKenzie Street on Wednesday, April 15 with doors opening from 5pm.

“House fires happen every year,” Cobden CFA captain Dale Robertson said.

“Spend time now and learn how you can keep you, your family and your friends safe.”

Attendees will gain an increased awareness of the common causes of fires in the home and an increased understanding of the ways of preventing and dealing with fire emergencies.

They will also become better prepared to deal with a house fire, learn how to use a fire blanket and fire extinguisher and learn more about battery safety.

Mr Robertson said the brigade especially wanted to focus on smoke alarms and their importance in the home.

“Smoke alarms are a big issue in Cobden – not many houses have them,” he said.

“That’s why we wanted to push this.

“If people haven’t got smoke alarms in their house, we can help them to get them installed.”

Mr Robertson also wanted to remind people to register their burn-offs to prevent unnecessary call outs for the CFA.
