Council approves road deviation
CORANGAMITE Shire councillors have supported the deviation of an unnamed government road impeding progress on the Unlocking Housing Timboon project.
The Unlocking Housing Timboon project will see council-owned land used to build a multi lot residential facility to bolster residential and worker populations.
The Unlocking Housing Timboon is among council’s priority projects, with stage one expected to see eight new residential lots built.
Stage one of the works is currently impeded by an unnamed government road, located on the property of 5 Curdies Road, which council has determined as not required for public use.
Council approached the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and received in-principle support for the deviation, which will require ministerial approval.
Council issued a public notice in November, and did not receive any responses.
Councillor Jamie Vogels said he was happy to support the officer’s recommendation to submit a formal letter to DEECA seeking ministerial approval for the deviation.
“Through part of the Unlocking Timboon Housing there is an unnamed road that hasn’t been made and doesn’t align to get the subdivision underway,” he said.
“This is simply a realignment of a gazetted road at 5 Curdies Road.”
Cr Laurie Hickey also offered his support for the deviation in seconding.
“I’m happy to support this too,” he said.
“It makes good sense.”
Councillors voted unanimously in favour to proceed with the proposed deviation.
