CWA ladies bring talent to Mortlake
WOMEN of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) branches across the region are set to bring one of their most beloved events to Mortlake for the first time.
The CWA 2024 Creative Arts Exhibition will descend on Mortlake next weekend, Friday to Sunday, June 7-9, with hundreds of exhibitions on display from the 11 different CWA branches across the region.
CWA Warrnambool Branch president Pam Andrew said members from branches including Warrnambool, Cobden, Mortlake, Camperdown, Terang, Allansford and Panmure are all excited to enjoy a change of location for the popular event.
“We quite like the idea of moving it around a little bit,” she said.
“The Mortlake CWA groups offered to take it over because Soldiers Memorial Hall was free and the Mortlake Art Show will be on the same weekend across the road at the Returned and Services League Hall.
“We thought we might as well join in and help them to promote the town.
“The girls of the Mortlake CWA groups have promised they are hard at work with the CWA Café to be open across the weekend, with a range of tasty sandwiches and slices, in addition to our award-winning scones.”
The Creative Arts Exhibition will showcase a broad range of artistic offerings including cooking, crafts, patchwork, embroidery, knitting, crochet, photography, floral art, toys and more.
“We will have branch exhibits in craft and home industry, each of which have five distinct items displayed,” Ms Andrew said.
More than 450 items are set to be on display across the wide range of categories.
Ms Andrew said photography is proving quite popular, with entries around 50 per cent higher than normal.
“Photography usually has 10 entries in each section but this year we’re seeing around 15-16, so it is proving very popular,” she said.
“A lot of our exhibitors have just joined or have never been brave enough to enter, so this year we have a lot of first-time exhibitors.
“It will be good to give them a taste of what it’s like.”
Ms Andrew said she believed there will be a little something for everyone, and hopes to see a diverse number of people support creative efforts of the ladies of the CWA.
“For anyone who would like to come, I think there will be something to see for everyone with lots of different activities and items,” she said.
“I’m sure anyone would find a lovely group of women, and if you’re interested in joining us, we would love to have you.”
The 2024 Creative Arts Exhibition will be held at the Soldier’s Memorial Hall on Shaw Street across the King’s Birthday Weekend from 9am-5pm on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8 and 9am-3pm on Sunday, June 9.
