Disappointing weekend for Bulls’ top side
POMBORNEIT had its most disappointing loss of the season to date in Colac-South West premier cricket competition, well beaten by Birregurra at Birregurra.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat, and after 23 overs the Bulls were on top with Birregurra on 5/97.
The Saints then put on 84 for the seventh wicket in the next 19 overs, ultimately finishing on 8/243.
All-rounder Michael Fallon top scored for Birregurra with an unbeaten run a ball 120, hitting four fours and five sixes.
“We started really well, unfortunately we dropped Fallon early on in his innings and he really made us pay,” Pomborneit captain Grant Place said.
Finn Tolland took the first two wickets, finishing with 2/18 from five overs, with TharakaSendanayake more expensive with 2/56 from 10.
Spinners Lahiru Fernando (1/34 from 10) and Matt Bignell (1/49 from 10) also played their role.
“Finn was really good early, Tommy Darcy and Larry (Fernando) did their roles well,” Place said.
“Biggers (Bignell) has hardly bowled all year but has been great the last couple of weeks, he bowled well when Birre were really coming hard at us with the bat.”
Pomborneit’s innings never got going, all out for just 104 in 28.4 overs.
Lahiru Fernando top scored with 26 from 36 balls.
“It was by far our worst performance with the bat this season.
“They bowled well, we had a few ordinary dismissals and just couldn’t get any partnerships going.”
The loss sees Pomborneit fall to seventh on the ladder.
This week the Bulls play Camperdown at SA Wright Oval for the Hillman Shield.
“It’s a game that always means a lot for us, we need to get back to playing our best cricket leading in to the finals.”

In division two, Pomborneit had a strong eight wicket win over Heytesbury-Princetown Blue at Pomborneit.
An impressive bowling and fielding performance saw the Bulls bowl the visitors out for 84 in 31.2 overs.
Teenagers Fletcher Tolland and Max Rees took three wickets each, Rees taking a superb caught and bowled catch diving forward was a real highlight.
Stephen Hill conceded just six runs in his eight over spell with the new ball.
The division two Bulls reached the victory target in 19.2 overs for the loss of two wickets.
Skipper Charlie Voutier was unbeaten on 35 from 66 balls with five boundaries.
The win puts the Bulls up into second place, overtaking Heytesbury-Princetown Blue after the win.

Tomorrow’s game sees Pomborneit play top placed Bookaar at Frederick St.
Pomborneit’s under 17 boys had the bye on Tuesday night.
Finals commence this Tuesday, with Pomborneit playing Irrewarra Black at Colac Secondary College Oval in a semi-final.
On Sunday in the under 16 boys, Pomborneit had a 177 run win over Heytesbury-Princetown at Timboon.
Batting first, Pomborneit made 3/228 from their 35 overs, with three players reaching the 50 retired mark.
Josh Reynolds made 53 from 39 balls with nine boundaries, George Sadler scored 50 from 54 balls with Max Rees making 50 from 46 balls.
Miller Murphy, with 26 not out from 32 balls, and Jonty Raven with 16 also contributed well.
In reply, the Storm was bowled out for 51 in 26.5 overs.
Josh Reynolds took 3/1 from three overs with Noah Boyd taking 2/0 from 2.5 overs.
This Sunday’s final home and away game sees the under 16 Bulls play Cobden at Cobden.
In the under 14s on Friday night, Pomborneit had a 50 run win over City United Purple at Elliminyt.
Batting first, the Bulls posted 8/176, led by 46 retired from 24 balls to Bailey fox, 26 not out to Crawford Dunn and 21 to Hamish Christensen.
The home team replied with 8/126 from their 30 overs, Jamie Gardiner with 2/11 from two overs the only multiple wicket taker.
This Friday night the under 14s play West Warrion at Colac’s Western Reserve.
In the under 13s on Monday night, Pomborneit had a win over Camperdown at Pomborneit.
The Lakers batted first, making 5/89 from their 24 overs.
Bailey Fox led the bowlers with 2/2 from two overs.
The junior Bulls replied with 7/97 to get the win.
Bailey Fox made 20 retired, with Hamish Christensen making 15 retired.
The under 13 Bulls have the bye this Monday ahead of the finals which start the week after.
