Dyson pays C’mite a visit
LAST week Corangamite Shire deputy mayor Laurie Hickey and chief executive officer David Rae met with Independent candidate for Wannon Alex Dyson to discuss council’s priorities for Corangamite Shire ahead of the federal election.

Mr Dyson said the meeting with the council representatives was a “great opportunity” to discuss issues impacting the Corangamite Shire.
“It was my second meeting with Corangamite Shire Council and it’s great that their priorities overlap with what I have heard from Wannon locals on my listening tour, and that’s improving our region’s roads, creating greater access to childcare, and addressing the lack of housing in the area,” he said.
“We also discussed obtaining federal funds to kickstart priority projects that will unlock economic growth in the region, as well as boosting tourism and the arts.
“To get a better deal for Wannon we need all levels of government to be on the same page, so I’m excited to have such productive conversations with council to help bring attention and, by extension, federal funds to our often-overlooked region.”
Cr Hickey was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Mr Dyson.
“This was an opportunity to meet Mr Dyson and enlighten him on the key issues that council is advocating for at a Federal level,” he said.
“Our priorities include addressing the chronic shortage of childcare, and supply of affordable housing and energy for our residents.
“We also discussed advancing the Camperdown Production Precinct, constructing a Port Campbell to Princetown trail, and the Theatre Royal Transformation Project.
“Now the Labor party has announced their candidate, Fiona Mackenzie, we’ll seek a meeting with her as well.
“We look forward to meeting with other candidates in due course and continuing to advocate for our community.”
