COBDEN Country Women’s Association (CWA) ladies recently celebrated their annual Christmas dinner, which was this year catered by the historical society catering members in the Uniting Church hall.

Cobden CWA is the longest serving community organisation in Cobden, commencing in 1933, 2025 this being their 92nd year.

Many Cobden and district ladies have enjoyed the comradery and friendship during this time.

“Each year we work to donate to worthy organisations in Cobden and our branch belongs to South Western CWA with branches in surrounding towns,” Cobden CWA member Jennifer Kripp said.

“The group owns the Terang CWA Hall where we run functions and enjoy get togethers and the hall is also hired out to the community.

“This year we ran a very successful morning Devonshire tea – this came about at the end of COVID when we felt the community needed to reconnect and follow up friendships.

“It is now an annual event and previous to this we ran very successful Mother’s Day high teas.

“Each year we study a different world country, adding to our knowledge – we have a dinner and cook the food of the country, with some recipes proving a challenge.”

Mrs Kripp said the organisation had been busy this year with events and community projects.

“We collect items for Christmas boxes sent to disadvantaged children in overseas countries and many knitted beanies and knee rugs were distributed to needy organisations,” she said.

“Each meeting we have a competition for the best bloom from your garden and an article from different alphabet letters.

“We have speakers at our meetings, dine out at a local restaurant once a year and Val Maynard has us making goodies at Easter.

“You don’t have to be a cook to join however some of our ladies can well live up to the reputation of ‘The Scones Ladies’.

“We cater for the senior’s dinners when the Cobden Technical School cookery class has school holidays.”

Mrs Kripp said, looking ahead, Cobden CWA would be running a raffle this Christmas.

“Our latest fundraiser is a raffle, with the first prize being a very big basket of groceries,” she said.

“Second prize is Dawn Robertson’s fruit Christmas cake and third prize is a jar of shortbread.

“Please come and buy a ticket at our stall in Tandarook park Christmas festival on Sunday, December 21.

“Our meetings are the first Monday of each month in the Uniting Church hall at 1pm.

“A warm welcome to ladies interested in joining a friendly group.”
