The first match went the way of Central Highlands, with the Waves getting over the line in the second game.

The Waves batted first in game one, scoring 5/80 from their 20 overs.

Central Highlands passed the score in the 15th over for the loss of four wickets.

Courtney opened the bowling and got the first wicket on her way to 1/19 from two overs while Reynolds snared two wickets, both bowled, taking 2/5 from her two overs.

Game two saw the Waves post 4/124, with Courtney making four not out from 15 balls.

Central Highlands replied with 6/107 from its 20 overs - Courtney and Reynolds having the identical figures of 0/12 from two overs.

“It was definitely a thrill to be picked to play at this level,” Courtney said.

“After South West didn’t have a Country Week team it was a bit of a surprise to be selected.”

Courtney has had a busy 2025/26 season, playing senior women’s cricket for both Camperdown and Russells Creek, as well as some games for Camperdown’s division three men’s team and under 13 boys’ team.

Courtney credits getting involved with cricket to her grandfather, Camperdown legend Steve Wright.

“I enjoy quite a few sports, he encouraged me to give it a go, it’s been a lot of fun.”

Courtney, who now attends school in Geelong, got a lot out of the day.

“It was a tough couple of games in the heat, but we just had a bit of fun.

“It was hard going, not knowing anyone.”

Reynolds, a bottom ager still playing under 13 girls cricket, enjoyed the experience.

“Everyone was really friendly and nice,” she said.

“It was a long day in the heat but still lots of fun.”

Reynolds is a member of Pomborneit’s under 13 girls team, fills in regularly in the club’s under 17 girls team and made her senior women’s debut for Pomborneit Maroon in December.

Her performances at Hamilton for the Colac District CA under 14 girls Country Week team helped her selection for Sunday’s games.

“Country Week was so good, it was a really good level of cricket.

“This was even harder, really good players and playing on turf.”
