A good kind of blue: Students at Camperdown College wore blue to raise funds and awareness for FightMND to mark the end of term last Friday.

Students at Camperdown College’s junior and senior campus wore blue to mark the day, donating a gold coin as well as participating in a variety of blue-themed activities.

The day raises funds and awareness for FightMND, which works to fund research into effective treatment and possible cures for motor neurone disease (MND).

MND is a disease which affects the brain, nerves and muscles, making it hard for people to move and talk.

Junior School Council (JSC) coordinator Rohan Adams said it was an exciting day for the junior campus students, who were all proud to help those working towards a cure for MND.

“Junior Campus students watched staff take part in the ice bucket challenge and ate blue iced donuts that were supplied by Camperdown Bakery,” he said.

“The JSC ran a colouring competition and fun games at lunchtime where there were prizes to be won that included Big Freeze beanies, FightMND footballs and wristbands.”

Student Representative Council (SRC) coordinator Tanisha Dooley said students at the senior campus were also busy in the lead-up to the day.

“In the lead up to Blue Day at the senior campus, students voted for staff to take part in the DIY Big Freeze ice bucket challenge by donating 50c to vote,” she said.

“The competition was tight right up until the cut-off date and students loved getting involved and tracking which staff members were leading the votes.

“School captains Stella Horspole and Jada Mahony joined in and bravely took the plunge.

“The SRC organised a trivia activity for homegroups, quizzing students on their knowledge of MND – winners received a Big Freeze wristband as a prize.”

Mr Adams and Ms Dooley extended their gratitude to all who supported the day, including Camperdown Bakery for providing the blue donuts for the day.

“Whether you voted, entered a draw or wore blue with a gold coin donation, your support has made a big difference,” they said.
