Good Friday success in Cobden
COBDEN residents dug deep for the Good Friday Appeal this year, raising a whopping total of $18,355.75 for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Quota Friends of Rotary organiser Fran Warden, who led the appeal for the last time this year, said she was “thrilled” with the result.
“That’s probably one of our better totals,” she said.
“We didn’t have a lot of collectors here in the town as per usual – before COVID we used to have kids everywhere but since COVID we've been limited to the number of collectors.
“What we’ve collected here in the town we’re really pleased with.
“Later in the night when I found out the grand total from Melbourne I couldn’t believe that so much money had been phoned through.
“We went out on a very high note.”
Next year, the Cobden Rotary club is taking over the Good Friday Appeal as the Quota Friends of Rotary ladies step down from the organising position after many years of running the appeal.
Mrs Warden said she wanted to thank everyone who assisted to make the day run smoothly.
“I’ve got to thank all the collectors who turned up on the day,” she said.
“There weren’t only little kids, there were some young footballers that turned up and they’ve done so for the last couple years.
“It’s great to see young people that age coming out and offering to collect for the hospital.
“We had a really nice day and the girls from the post office did a wonderful job as usual, they make it so much easier at handling the money.
“Angie Hunter and Paula Poole did a really good job.”
Mrs Warden said it wasn’t quite the end for her yet, as she still planned to help out on Good Friday next year.
“All the people that were counting the money – we really had a nice social day working at the church together,” she said.
“It’ll be a bit sad probably next year but I’ll come down and help them out but I won’t have all the responsibility that I have been having.”
