Horse racing interest very low
DESPITE huge crowds always being keen to turn out on race day, local races see low internet searches throughout Victoria.
Google searches for the Mortlake Cup recorded only two spikes in the past 10 years, with a spike recorded in October 2017 and a second spike recorded in October 2023.
Both spikes coincide with the timing of the cup, which is usually held annually in October.
The Terang Cup, however, only recorded one spike of interest across the 10-year period – this spike was recorded in April 2016.
In comparison, the Camperdown Cup, which is held in January proved to have more interest.
Google Trends data shows five spikes between 2012 and 2026 for searches for the Camperdown Cup.
The highest interest was recorded in 2015, followed by 2018, 2020, 2018 and finally 2023.
