Indoor bowls pennant action continues

THE division one pennant match between Mepunga and Camperdown was a close one in the Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls Association competition.

Mepunga 1 hosted Camperdown 1 and the match started out fairly evenly until the home side picked up a seven on end three.

The visitors fought back, keeping the deficit to five shots but a three on end seven for Mepunga 1 made their lead eight shots.

Despite Camperdown 1 fighting tooth and nail, Mepunga 1 def. Camperdown 1, 23-7.

Timboon Lawn 2 started their match strong when they visited Cobden 1, picking up six shots to the home team’s single in the first five ends of the match.

Cobden 1 then steadied the ship, with four shots on the next two ends, to reduce the deficit to one.

The remainder of the match was a close one, with Cobden 1 prevailing; taking the win 14-12.

The third division one match saw Timboon Lawn 1 host Laang-Ecklin.

Both sides started fairly evenly and that set the scene for a close encounter – with the scores level on 15 apiece at the end.

Glenormiston 1 enjoyed a home victory, defeating Camperdown 2, 20-13.

The top four this week are Glenormiston 1, Mepunga 1, Camperdown 1 and Timboon Lawn 1.

In division two, Simpson 1 lost to Glenormiston 2, 16-20 while Glenormiston 3 defeated Scotts Creek 1, 26-7.

The third match was the Battle of the Mepungas – 2 v 3.

What began as a relatively even match, saw Mepunga 3 get the win, 26-14.

Cobden 2 was host to Timboon Lawn 3 and finished the day with a win, 31-12.

The top four this week are Mepunga 3, Cobden 2, Glenormiston 2 and Simpson 1.

In division three, Scotts Creek 2 hosted Mepunga 4.

The home side struggled to keep the visitors at bay all night, going down 4-35.

Peterborough was host to Cobden 3.

The home side took some initiative on ends eight through 12, picking up some handy shots, but in the end it was Cobden 3 who ran home victors, 22-13.

The top four on the division three ladder this week are Mepunga 4, Scotts Creek 2, Cobden 3 and Peterborough.

A reminder the Southwest Challenge will be held this Sunday, May 18 at the Warrnambool ARC stadium – 9am arrival for a 9.30am start.
