Inter-region challenge for vets

CORANGAMITE Veterans golfers enjoyed an inter-region challenge at the Terang Golf Club last Monday.

Corangamite was represented by 44 players while a further 32 travelled to Terang to represent Glenelg.

The Terang course was in great condition after receiving 37mm of rain over the previous week.

The real winner of the day was the golf course, with no player playing to their handicap.

Results:

A grade – winner Rob Field (Mortlake) 34 points on countback from Mick Holcombe (Hamilton) 34, with Jeff Costin (Colac) third on 31. NAGA Bernie Sinnott (Camperdown) on 25.

B grade – winner Trevor Wathan (Hamilton) 32 points, runner-up John Mitchell (Hamilton) 31, third Wayne

Bond (Heywood) 30, NQAGA John Eccles (East Fram) 17.

C grade – winner Rob Harris (Hamilton) 32, runner-up Colin Venn (Terang) 30 on countback from Lyn O’Brien (Hamilton) 30, NAGA Laurie Green (Cobden) 16.

Nearest the pins: 3rd Chris Cunnington (Colac), 6th Wayne Bond (Heywood) golden hole, 8th Rick O’Donnell (Hamilton), 11th Wayne Taylor.

Challenge results – Corangamite 1085 points, 44 players, average 24.65, Glenelg 880 points, 32 players, average 27.5.

Glenelg will regain the Challenge Shield until next year – when the event will be held in the Glenelg region.

Monday, February 24 is Cumper Day at Port Fairy. Please ring the course to book ($25 cost).

Tuesday, March 4 is Warrnambool SW Vets Championships ($65 includes two-course meal).

Tuesday, March 11 at Terang is 4BBB and annual meeting.

Anyone who has golfing friends with a Golf Australia handicap who would like to try vets golf is encouraged to take them along to any events (talk to your club liaison officer).
