Skipper Johno Benallack won the toss and elected to bat first in the day/night encounter, reduced to 40 overs per team.

The Knights were in big trouble early, at 3/8, before a 78 run partnership for the fourth wicket between brothers Matt and Lachy Boyle steadied the ship.

Lachy Boyle hit 47 from 37 balls with six fours and a six.

Matt Boyle made 40 from 74 balls, with Brandon Goodhall (18) and Parker Walsh (17) the only others to make double figures as Cobden was dismissed in the 37th over for 160.

“Matt and Lachy batted really well on a spicy deck that had been under the covers,” Benallack said.

“You don’t often see Matty bat as slow as that but he did a great job, while Lachy hit the ball very cleanly.”

One hundred and 60 was slightly under what the Knights captain was after.

“Par was probably 180, we left 10 to 15 runs out there,” he said.

In Bookaar’s innings Parker Walsh took the early wicket of Simon Baker for five before the Pelicans put on 74 for the second wicket.

The visitors passed Cobden’s score in the 39th over seven wickets down.

“It was a close game pretty much all the way through, we weren’t far off.”

Parker Walsh with 2/17 from seven overs and Ash Rosolin with 2/20 from eight were the best of the Knights bowlers.

“Parker keeps hitting really good lengths, Roso (Rosolin) bowled extremely well in an important pace off role.”

The other wicket takers were Darcy Meade, with 1/24 from eight overs, and Campbell Walsh, who took 1/23 from 4.5 overs in a rare foray to the bowling crease.

“Darcy is just ultra consistent and did a good job with the new ball.

“Campbell bowls very similar (to brother) Parker so we thought he was worth a try, he came on and bowled well.”
