Looking to the skies for Science Week
STUDENTS at Camperdown College turned their gaze to the stars to mark Science Week last week, holding a science fair and astronomy night.

Held last Tuesday, Prep-Year Six STEM teacher Lauren Murphy said students, families and staff came together to celebrate various forms of science in the evening.
“Students proudly showcased their science projects and enthusiastically explored a wide variety of interactive games and displays,” she said.
“The creativity and effort behind each project were truly impressive, sparking curiosity and great conversations among visitors of all ages.
“One of the highlights of the night was the astronomy session, where participants enjoyed the rare opportunity to look through a professional-grade telescope.
“Amongst the celestial sights, students observed the spectacular Jewel Box Cluster and Alpha Centauri, our closest star system neighbour.
“For many, it was their first time seeing deep space objects with their own eyes – a truly unforgettable experience.”
Students and families also heard from Victorian Space Science Education Centre’s Emma Barnett, who provided a talk on space and the equipment used in astronomy.
Ms Murphy expressed her gratitude to Ms Barnett for speaking at the science fair.
“Her passion for space science inspired students and added a whole new dimension to the evening,” she said.
“Overall, it was a night filled with learning, wonder and discovery.
“Thank you to all who attended and contributed to making the night such a success.”
