Loose balls costly for Storm
HEYTESBURY-PRINCETOWN Storm had a 91 run loss in its round seven Colac-South West division one premier match on Saturday.
Batting first at the Alvie Recreation Reserve, the home team made 3/226 from its 50 overs.
“They batted well, we bowled a few too many loose balls,” Storm captain Matthew Love said.
“We thought their score was about par on that ground, it was a little bit slow.”
Paul Vogels was the best of the Storm bowlers, taking a wicket and conceding just 24 runs from his 10 overs.
Tommy Illingworth and Simon Harkness also took a wicket each.
“Snacks (Paul Vogels) is always hard to get away, he was the one bowler who didn’t bowl many loose balls.
“Tommy did a great job in difficult conditions, he bowled into a tough breeze, he’s making the most of his opportunities.”
The Storm started solidly in the run chase, reaching 0/38 before losing 7/27 to be in all sorts of trouble at 7/65.
Sam Lenehan with 32 and Paul Vogels with 17 offered some lower order resistance, but the damage was done, the Storm all out for 135 in the 45th over.
“We couldn’t get many partnerships going and ended up taking a lot of unnecessary risks.
“Lennas (Sam Lenehan) and Snacks showed the top order how they should have played, they worked the ball well into the gaps.”
This week Heytesbury-Princetown play Pomborneit at the Timboon Recreation Reserve.
“It will be good to be back at home after our road trips, both teams will be thereabouts, it should be a good contest.”
In division two, Storm Blue had the bye, while Storm Purple had a 111 run loss to Cobden at Timboon.
Cobden batted first and made 6/233, with Jalen Berry taking three wickets and Rory Roberts two.
In reply, Purple were all out for 122 in the 34th over, Ashley Price with 29 and Lachie McLennan with 14 the only players to make double figures.

The Heytesbury-Princetown division three game against Cobden at Princetown was abandoned without a ball bowled.
