Magpies look ahead

“Given how even the competition is this season, we have every opportunity to turn things around in the second half and be right amongst it,” Swayn said.

“We’re sitting three and six (win/loss ratio) and while it’s not ideal to be down the ladder, if we can turn that around in the back half of the year and chalk up a few more wins who knows what could happen.

“We spoke about it after last Saturday’s game and over the last five weeks or so we’ve only lost to the two top sides.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s loss to the Eagles, Swayn said he was pleased with the team’s first half efforts but believe they dropped off in the second and had to play catch-up.

“Fifteen minutes into the second quarter we had a bloke sent off, which left us a man down, but we worked hard and remained focussed,” he said.

“Some of their (Eagles) stronger players were challenging in our midfield and their back half but I was pleased with how we adapted and worked hard.

“We’ll face Terang Mortlake after this weekend’s bye round and that will be another great test.”
