Magpies swooping season begins
CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club’s pennant season will begin next Tuesday when mid-week competition resumes.
The newly formed club will field teams in divisions one, two and three and it is expected that they will be very competitive in all divisions.
Division one will travel to Colac Central and a close game is predicted.
Colac Central finished in fourth position last year, losing in the first semi-final to Simpson by three shots.
Division one teams for next Tuesday are:
Maria Van Someren (s), Barry Atchison, Kel Edwards and Greg Edwards.
Vicki Brebner (s), Peter Reilly, Henry Henderson and Ron Simcox.
Craig Skene (s), Fred Salmon, John O’Donohue and Janet Molan.
The bus will leave Thornton Street at 9am.
Division two will be at home against Lorne, who finished last season in sixth place so a win for the Magpies would be a great way to start the season.
Division two teams for next Tuesday are:
Brad Wilson (s), Tim Spokes, Pam Atchison and Ray Bourke.
Stan Adeney (s), Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland.
Barb Boyd (s), Rene Wyles, Wayne Henry and Elaine Waterfall.
Division three will travel to Winchelsea who finished fourth last season so it will be a tough match for the Magpies on Winchelsea’s home green.
Division three teams for next Tuesday are:
Les Pearson (s), Gordon Weller, Ruth Skene and Debbie Noonan.
Carol Wilson (s), Norma Weller, Pat Scott and Val Coverdale.
Marg Stephens (s), Steph Whiteside, Donna Watts and Kath Banks.
Cars will leave Thornton Street at 8.30am.
Saturday pennant will start this weekend (tomorrow) with the club fielding five teams.
Magpies one will be at home to Winchelsea 2; Magpies 2 away to Cobden 1; Magpies 3 away to Cressy 1; Magpies 4 away to Colac 3; and Magpies 5 away to Cobden 3.
On Sunday at 1.30pm there will be a get together at Thornton Street for all members and families as the club prepares for the season.
This will be a great opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the start of the newly formed Camperdown Magpies.
Those attending are asked to take along a plate to share for afternoon tea.
