Community unites for rainbow fun run

THE Mortlake community dug deep to support the Mortlake P-12 College Rainbow Run event on Sunday, with the colourful extravaganza raising more than $2500.

Seventy-five students tackled the obstacle course which weaved its way through the school grounds, complete with large inflatables and a water slide.

About 30 parent volunteers lined the course, spraying coloured powder at the participants along the way.

The Mortlake P-12 College Parent’s Association organised the fundraiser in support of two upcoming building projects at the school.

Association committee member and run co-organiser Liz Fowler said all involved had a “fantastic” day, with the sun staying out for the majority of the day.

“We had a great turnout,” she said.

The school also hosted a rubber duck race to raise funds for the school’s projects during Sunday.

The brainchild of principal Danny Forrest, the fundraiser saw 400 school community members purchase an individual duck with a unique number.

The race involved school community members using a leaf blower to blow the rubber ducks along a tarpaulin.

Rebecca Mann, the owner of the first duck across the line, took home $500.
