NOBTS and Cowgirls best on court
THE Corangamite volleyball finals were highlighted by the seasoned NOBTS going back-to-back in A grade, and a breakthrough win for the much-improved Cowgirls in B grade.

The volleyball was of a high standard from start to finish, with the A grade semi-finals providing the best matches of the year – until the grand final produced something even better.
A surprising upset saw ladder leaders Cooriemungle Bulls beaten by fourth-placed Freeballers in their semi-final.
The youthful ‘Ballers’ played their very best volleyball while the Bulls’ normal highly-skilled game was just one-percent off.
That’s all it took for the Freeballers to advance to the final with a 2-1 win.
In the other semi, NOBTS were too steady for their traditional rivals Poachers who just could not match their opponents’ consistency and firepower.
After losing the first two games, Poachers came back hard in the third but could not keep up the pressure, going down 1-3.
The final was a thriller. First set to NOBTS, second to Freeballers, third to NOBTS and fourth to Freeballers.
This meant a sudden death fifth set to advantage-8 to decide the premiers.
NOBTS snuck ahead at the vital time to win 10-8. Their training paid dividends.
It was particularly pleasing for Troy Logan who had not been part of any previous A grade wins by NOBTS since he started playing in 2006.
B grade saw Cowgirls and Champs battle out the final after Champs had defeated Ballbusters in the elimination final.

Cowgirls finished on top of the B grade section so they were favoured to win but Champs could not be discounted.
Their recent form was solid.
The end result was 3-1 but the first three sets were very close – 15-13, 15-13 and 17-15.
Champs snared the fourth but the damage was already done. Great work, Cowgirls.
The nine-week winter competition is only two weeks away.
