With just one round to play before the autumn finals, an easy win over Pirates and a spirited victory over Slugs in round eight saw NOBTS slip past Poachers (who found Bulls too strong on the vital points).

Next week NOBTS will face a couple of hard matches against the first and fourth-placed teams so the pressure will be on them to retain their spot, particularly as Poachers will enjoy two easier games.

Bulls cannot lose top spot now and look likely A grade premiers but both NOBTS and Poachers can never be discounted.

After an ordinary round eight, Stallions now look to be out of the race but they too can display above-average ability on any night.

B grade is looking interesting, with bottom team Ballbusters showing signs of consolidating their skills.

With luck in the last round, Ballbusters could easily move into the grand final spot where they will await the winners of the Slugs v Pirates clash.

Round eight results:

NOBTS defeated Slugs 2-1, Bulls def Poachers 4-0, Poachers def Stallions 3-0, NOBTS def Pirates 4-0, Pirates def Slugs 4-1, Ballbusters def Stallions 3-0, Bulls def

Ballbusters 2-1.

Ladder after June 11 – Bulls 56, NOBTS 48, Poachers 46, Stallions 28, Pirates 18, Slugs 14, Ballbusters 14.
