Triumphant return: Heidi and Greg Wane are returning to the Camperdown Courthouse for this month’s exhibition, showing their growth from July last year.

The exhibition – aptly named ‘Different Perspectives’ – features photographs of various subjects based on their interests.

For Mrs Wane, it’s candid images in public places taken on her iPhone camera.

“You can sneak in and take a quick photo, whereas if you’re using a real camera, people move away,” she said.

“Because I always have it with me, getting shots of what I saw on the streets of towns and cities was quick and easy.

“It’s the chance encounters, where subjects are not posed, which makes the mobile camera the perfect tool.”

Mr Wane, however, prefers to keep his lens aimed at natural subjects – animals, plants and other natural objects – and planning out his shots.

“Getting it right in the camera probably goes back to when I used film,” he said.

“You had to be really accurate with focus and exposure.

“I used a 120-roll film camera then, which gave me only 12 shots per roll.

“I never saw the results until I got the film back from the chemist.

“The digital camera is a complex tool offering the photographer so much and it’s great that I don’t need to buy film.”

The pair had exhibited at the Courthouse in July last year, which they feel is exciting as they have the opportunity to show how much they’ve grown since their first ever exhibition.

Mrs Wane said their first exhibition encouraged them, which led to them developing their approaches to photography.

“I’ve found my direction in the sort of photography I enjoy more, while Greg is continuing with his wildlife and nature photography,” she said.

“I like street photography, trains and shop windows.

“It’s quite exciting to be back – it’s encouraged us to take more photos.

“Knowing it’s a new exhibition, we needed to bring different stock.”

Mr Wane said he hoped residents enjoyed the photos on display.

“We hope they enjoy it and it inspires others – particularly those with iPhones – to go out and take photos,” he said.

Mrs Wane said she hoped residents gained a new appreciation of the world in which they lived, and their exhibition inspires other budding artists and photographers.

“I think to go that next step and do an exhibition is good,” she said.

“The first time we did it, it was quite scary.

“This time, we’re still a little bit nervous, but it gives you a little bit more confidence once you’ve done it.”

The exhibition will be on display at the Courthouse, located at 179 Manifold Street, Camperdown, until the end of October.
