Ready for first home game

VISITORS to Camperdown’s Leura Oval can now enjoy a larger tiered standing area near the bar thanks to recent upgrade works.

A joint project between members of the Leura Oval Committee of Management and the Camperdown Football Netball Club, the new concrete pad has been completed in time for tomorrow’s Hampden League round two home game for the Magpies.

“There has been a lot of talk in recent times about enlarging the outside area near the bar and it’s exciting to see this project come to fruition,” club president Phil Cunningham said.

“The concrete pour took place about two weeks ago and I’m sure this area will be very well utilised, particularly on game days.

“We were fortunate to have the support of some local tradies who did some in-kind work and we thank them for that, along with everyone else who contributed to the fundraising efforts to ensure this project went ahead.”

The Pies will head in to their round two clash with the Hamilton Kangaroos tomorrow with added confidence after defeating the highly-fancied Terang Mortlake on their home ground last weekend.

“The Bloods were highly rated going in to the opening round so it was nice to come away with the win,” Cunningham said.

“It’s given our blokes an added sense of belief going into tomorrow’s game. Our new senior coach Clinton Thomas has worked really hard with the team and this season is off to a great start.

“Clinton’s brother Brad is the coach of Hamilton so no doubt tomorrow will be a memorable one for them both.”
