Semi-final awaits Bloods
TERANG Mortlake’s senior footballers are through to the second semi-final after a 20 point win over Koroit in the Hampden League qualifying final on Saturday.
After a tight first three quarters, the Bloods were able to get away in the final term on their way to an 11.9.75 to 7.13.55 win at the Cobden Recreation Reserve.
“I thought probably going into half-time we potentially could have been up by a couple more goals, we just lacked a bit of discipline and gave them a couple of easy ones right on half-time,” Terang Mortlake coach Lewy Tayor said.
“But in that third quarter we kicked into the wind and did pretty well, then we were able to use that scoring end in the final quarter to get away.
“Koroit played some good footy, it was a really good contest.”
Alex Moloney was best for the Bloods in the win.
“He’s playing well and is hard to beat, he came forward and made some big tackles and big hits.
“Watching the game back, Will Moloney was really good as well, he played on Dobson (Koroit key forward Sam Dobson) and kept him pretty quiet, the Moloney’s work well together.”
Teenager Ned Roberts was second best for Terang Mortlake.
“I think a lot of those guys who played their first final played well, so that might help with the nerves moving forward.
“Ned’s efforts in tackling and his effort across the ground was really good.”
Jackson Paine kicked two goals and five behinds to also be in the best for the Bloods.
“Paine was good, he probably could’ve finished with a bigger day, he kicked a fair few points.
“He did a lot of good stuff off the ball, created contests and did a lot of good things in general, he was pretty pumped, he hasn’t played finals for a fair while so he was rapt after the game.”
This week Terang play North Warrnambool in the second semi at Camperdown’s Leura Oval, with the winner to advance to the grand final.
“It doesn’t get any easier, North are coming off a week off and we’re reasonably fresh in each other’s memories having played in round 16 (where the teams played out a draw).
“It will be a pretty good contest, we’ll take a bit of confidence out of the weekend and see what we can do.”

The 17 and under netball elimination final saw Terang Mortlake register a strong 46-24 win over North Warrnambool at Hamilton on Sunday.
Maddison Wallace, Lila Bennett and Pippa Barr were best for the Bloods in the win, with Lyla Grundy shooting 33 goals and Madelyn Clarke 13.
This Sunday the 17 and under Bloods play Warrnambool in the first semi-final at South Warrnambool.
In the 17 and under reserves qualifying final, Terang Mortlake had a 24-21 loss to Warrnambool.
Violet Dillon, Lily Guthrie and Emma Hill were best in the loss, with Dillon shooting nine goals.
This week Terang Mortlake play South Warrnambool in the 17 and under reserves elimination final on Sunday.
In the 13 and under netball elimination final, Hamilton scored a 36-31 win to end Terang Mortlake’s season.
Daisy Dillon, Matilda Conheady and Imogen Barr were best for the Bloods, with Barr shooting 17 goals and Annabelle Blackford 14.
Terang Mortlake scored a 26-12 win over Warrnambool in the 13 and under reserves netball elimination final.
Shania Madzarevic, Charlotte Boshier and Daisy Sargeant were best in the win, with Sargeant shooting 22 goals.
The Bloods 13 and under reserves will play Koroit in this Sunday’s first semi-final.
