State assistance to ease gas transition

AN UPCOMING webinar could help Terang residents’ transition to electricity following the announcement this town’s compressed gas network will shut down before the end of next year.

The State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SEC) will be hosting an online webinar guiding Victorians through the process on how to go electric on Tuesday, October 21 from 1pm.

The webinar follows the August announcement supplier Solstice Energy would be shutting down its compressed natural gas network in Terang by the end of 2026.

An SEC spokesperson said the body was ready to assist people in communities impacted by Solstice Energy’s decision with information and practical support on how to make the switch to electric.

“This includes hosting a webinar on October 21 where people will be able to learn more about going electric,” the spokesperson said.

“The free online information session will include expert advice from a specialist in converting traditional gas-powered homes into all-electric homes.

“The session will also provide people with information on the benefits of going electric, such as reducing energy bills and emissions.

“The steps to switch your home to electric will also be explained, including how it can be done one step at a time.”

The SEC spokesperson said information would also be shared on resources available to help people make the switch, including SEC’s electric home planner.

“Available to all Victorians, the planner helps people understand how they can save money on their energy bills by going electric,” the spokesperson said.

“It uses simple information about your home to create a personalised plan, including indicative appliance costs, government rebates, anticipated return on investment and emissions reductions.

“The planner highlights improvements available to households on all budgets. This includes small, cost-effective steps you can take immediately, to larger investments that can be made when you’re ready.

“In addition to the free online information session and information and resources available on our website, SEC is also attending community-group meetings and presenting at local events to share advice and answer questions on how to make the switch to electric.

“People will decide what is best for their own household and SEC’s goal is to ensure people have access to simple and easy to understand information, so they are informed and empowered.”
