The show, which was held last Sunday, drew a strong crowd of poultry enthusiasts from as far as Portland, Gisborne and Ballarat to the Camperdown Showgrounds.

Camperdown Poultry Club Brian Best Memorial Show secretary Clayton Horspole said the club was pleased with the turnout for this year’s event.

“We were more than happy given what’s starting to happen with the avian flu,” he said.

“The poultry show’s always the same – it’s a lot of likeminded people who enjoy being able to get into a shed, exhibit their fowl, have an enjoyable day and a catch-up to talk breeds, genetics and birds.

“We had Tim Polley come over from Tasmania as one of the judges, as well as Michael Lloyd from Horsham.

“The Camperdown Poultry Club had another fantastic day”

Mr Horspole said the Brian Best Memorial Show was named in honour of one of the club’s founding members in the 1950s and earliest life member Brian Best.

“Seven years ago, we named the show in his honour,” he said.

“We have this annual feature, which is always the first Sunday in August on the poultry showing calendar.”

Mr Horspole said one exhibitor in particular saw strong support for his birds across the various show categories.

“Lachlan McDonald had a very good day,” he said.

“The McDonald family exhibit from Gisborne, and he’s not just an exceptional breeder of fowl but an exceptional showman.

“His birds are in quality feather and shown to perfection – all cleaned up and polished up.

“It’s just an immaculate show.”
