Strong start from Derri cricketers

DERRINALLUM is off to a flying start in the 2025/26 season after a 98 run round one win over Rokewood.

Tigers’ captain Ned Uren won the toss and opted to bat in the match played at Derrinallum.

The home team got off to a solid start, reaching 2/63 before a flurry of wickets saw the innings in trouble at 8/77.

A 32 run ninth wicket partnership between Hunter Thompson and Paul Brisbane and 12 in an unbeaten 10th wicket partnership between Brisbane and Charlie Londregan, saw Derrinallum post 9/121 from their 40 overs.

Thompson scored 16 from 33 balls, while Brisbane remained 26 not out from 27 balls.

“We were in a bit of strife at 8 for 70 odd, Hunter and Paul saved us a bit, they worked through the opening bowlers coming back on then put some runs on the board,” Uren said.

“The ground was slow, we were originally aiming for 130 so we were happy to get to where we did.”

Earlier, Uren scored 18 from 47 balls opening, while Karan Brar top scored for the innings with 38 from 62.

“Karan did a great job in facing out the openers, then he was able to hit really well.”

A devastating opening spell from Khush Randhawa had the visitors reply in tatters, Rokewood 8/19 when the opening bowler had finished his eight overs.

Randhawa took the Tigers first five wicket haul of the season, finishing with 5/7 from eight overs.

“Khush was very accurate and bowled with great control, it felt like most of his deliveries were on the stumps.”

Of Randhawa’s five victims, three were bowled and one was LBW.

Rokewood was dismissed in the 19th over, batting one short for just 23.

Umer Qureshi was on debut for Derrinallum and took 2/4 from five overs, impressing Uren.

“Umer is a left armer, he has good pace off a short run up and showed good control too.

“Overall we were really happy with our performance, it’s good to start the season strongly.”

This week Derrinallum will play Carranballac at the Carranballac Recreation Reserve.

“Carranballac always has a good team, we’re looking forward to hopefully continuing our good start.”
