That’s a wrap

THE 1850’s Goldrush fever came to the Theatre Royal earlier this month with a delightfully saucy account of the legendary Lola Montez.

An out-there show: A sellout crowd enjoyed a production of Exotic Lives of Lola Montez last week.

A sellout crowd of 180 people attended the production of Exotic Lives of Lola Montez by globally awarded cabaret legends Finucane & Smith at the Theatre Royal in Camperdown on Thursday, April 3.

Corangamite Shire Council events and creative industries team leader Tammy Young said the performers wowed the audience.

“Some of the feedback we received was that it was exceptional and how amazing was it to have this come to Camperdown,” she said.

Audience member Russ Davis said the audience were treated to an evening of song, dance, and historically fascinating monologue.

“Miss Caroline Lee was delightfully exotic as Ms Montez, ably supported by ‘minxy’ characters Maple Rose, Piera Dennerstein and Iva Rosebud,” he said.

“The tall tales recounted in the lengthy monologues were superbly delivered by Lola despite rather poor sound quality in the amplified mix.

“Piera Dennerstein sang with a superb coloratura flair and conviction.

“The costumes and dancing gave the show a true burlesque flavour.

“Let’s hope that our wonderful theatre can attract more and more touring shows.”

Patrons also enjoyed grazing boxes from Excuse Me Katie’s and drinks from Timboon Distillery and Bache Wines.

The production was written by Patrick White, and Playwright Award winner Jackie Smith, and directed by “Queen of Provocative Variety” Moira Finucane.

The Victorian Tour of Exotic Lives of Lola Montez is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, Creative Australia, Auspicious Arts Projects and by Finucane & Smith’s Unrealists.
