The Timboon Country Fire Authority (CFA) alone collected $4785 within the Timboon township.

Timboon CFA lieutenant Daryl Spencer said they were down on previous years, but considering costs of petrol and the cost of living at the moment, was pleased with the result.

“We had five or six families walking the streets in town and then the trucks went around the outskirts of town to the farms and places where it was too far to walk,” he said.

“Like always, the generosity of the Timboon community is fantastic.

“They dig deep every year and it surprises me how many people put $50 or $100 notes into the cans, it really does.

“I think the Royal Children’s Hospital is important to every person that’s had a family because they know it’s there if they need it.

“I think Timboon is just one of those communities that know the Royal Children’s Hospital is there if ever they need it.”

Mr Spencer, who has been part of the Good Friday Appeal for all 14 years he’s been a member of the CFA, said he was surprised by how many community members put their hands up to participate in the appeal.

“I’m surprised at how many people, like families – mum, dad and three or four kids, would come up to the station, grab their money buckets and head off,” he said.

“We’d give them a route to go and off they would go.

“They’d walk the streets knocking on doors and they’d all meet back at the CFA station and the Timboon Fire Brigade would put on fish and chips for everybody and the kids all got Easter eggs.

“It seems to be getting bigger and bigger with families.

“We had, all up, 37 people – that shows you how many people, families, came out to do it.”
