Upgrade possible thanks to grant

THE Camperdown Returned and Services League (RSL) sub-branch will be able to undertake much-needed facility upgrades thanks to a Corangamite Shire Council grant.

This week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council saw the RSL sub-branch being among the three recipients of Facility Design Grants.

Facility Design Grants enable organisations to fund design and quantity surveyor costs to redevelop existing facilities or to create new facilities which adhere to universal design principles and relevant facility development guidelines.

Funding of up to $7500 is available through the year-round program, with a total budget of $30,000 allocated and the possibility for the remaining funds to flow on to the next financial year.

The total funding ask for this round of the Facility Design Grant is $21,585.50, with the Camperdown RSL receiving $7485.50.

The funding will be used to undertake the design phase to upgrade the facility on 14 Pike Street to meet modern accessibility and compliance standards.

Planned works will include minor demolition works and the expansion of existing facilities to support the long-term sustainability of the facility and make the venue more attractive and functional as a community hire space.

Councillor Nick Cole said the Facility Design Grants program was a great way for organisations to “get the ball rolling” on their projects.

“It’s just upgrading and modernising facilities to bring them up to date with compliance and other measures,” he said.

Cr Jamie Vogels seconded the motion.

“Good projects start with good planning, and funding designs and cost estimates gives these community groups a much better chance of securing larger state and federal grants,” he said.

“For roughly $21,500, we’re helping unlock projects that can unlock hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars into the community.”
