Volleyball premiers crowned
POACHERS has taken out the A grade Corangamite volleyball premiership.
Poachers defeated NOBTs in the grand final.
Both teams made short work of the Champs in their lead-up finals before settling down to a classic clash of the titans to decide the champions.
NOBTs, which began the match in fine style, took the first game 15-8 before Poachers settled into the tussle to grab the second game 15-12.
At 1-1, the third game was tight and was all tied up when the timer rang.
That meant a first-to-advantage-eight scenario, with Poachers emerging victorious 9-7 after numerous long rallies had the crowd on tenterhooks.
The MVP for the final was a new player to Poachers and the competition, Meredith Timmering, who did not make a mistake all night.
B grade played a round-robin to decide the autumn winner.
Freeballers proved too good for the less experienced Iga Ninjas and Ballbusters and took premiership honours.
Freeballer Noah Bignell won the most valuable player.
The winning team included new players Gracie Pearce and Chloe Anderson in their line-up.
The winter season begins this week at the Cobden Recreation Centre.
