World Cup for Wareham
MORTLAKE export Georgia Wareham became a four-time Twenty20 World Cup winner as part of the Australian team that defeated England early Monday morning Australian time.

Australian captain Sophie Molineux won the toss and sent England into bat in the tournament final at the famous Lords Cricket Ground, with England making 4/150 from its 20 overs.
Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt top scored for England with 58 from 53 balls, with four Aussie bowlers taking a wicket each.
Wareham was called upon to bowl two overs which went for nine runs.
While Wareham was padded up ready to bat she wasn’t required as the Australians, led by 64 from 49 balls from Beth Mooney, cruised to victory in the 18th over for the loss of three wickets.
Wareham, who has now played 82 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia in addition to 52 one day internationals and a Test match, had a strong World Cup tournament, with seven wickets in seven games, second only to skipper Molineux who took 11 wickets.
Batting four times, Wareham hit 82 runs with a strike rate of 182.22 and a top score of 41.
The win was Australia’s seventh overall women’s Twenty20 World Cup win, with Wareham’s other wins coming in 2018, 2020 and 2023.
Next up for Wareham is a stint in the English ‘Hundred’ competition which starts in two weeks.
Wareham has crossed to play for the Welsh Fire franchise in 2026 after previously representing the Northern Superchargers.
The next series for the Australian women’s team is a one-day international series in October against Bangladesh in Brisbane.
